The North Cariboo SPCA is asking for help from the public to care for a small dog who may not live.

In a release, the B.C. SPCA says a young dog named Falcor is the subject of a cruelty investigation.

He came to the Prince George branch with a horrible open wound on his back and was cold as well as unresponsive as the staff rushed him to intensive care at the vet.

Falcor, a little Pekingese mix, was shaved which exposed his wound and found a great deal of necrotic tissue and was also covered with maggots.

“This dog has suffered immensely and deserves a fighting chance,” B.C. SPCA chief prevention and enforcement officer Marcie Moriarty says in the release. “We have reason to believe that he was a victim of cruelty and are currently investigating this case.”

The SPCA says he will need to undergo multiple tests including X-rays and bloodwork to find out if there is damage to his organs.

Falcor is being provided daily, life-sustaining care at the vet and SPCA officials say it's not known yet if he will survive.

"We do not know how deep this innocent canine’s psychological wounds are or how he got such a severe gash along his back," the release adds. "What we can do is give him a second chance to live and show him that there are kind people in the world who care."

Vet bills are expected to reach $5,000.

The SPCA says you can help save this poor little dog’s life by donating to his medical fund at spca.bc.ca/medicalemergency. Anyone who has information about this case is asked to please call the B.C. SPCA’s toll-free hotline at 1-855-622-7722.
