A 44-year-old woman spent a night out in the wilderness after her snowmobile became stuck in the snow in the Nukko Lake area northwest of the city.
The woman was located at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, roughly six-and-a-half hours after she used her cell phone to contact police. When her machine became stuck, she had tried wading in the waist-deep snow for hours before she contacted police.
Nine Prince George Search and Rescue Society members with snowmobiles were sent to the area who found her suffering from hypothermia, despite being dressed properly. She was then transported to hospital.
Prince George RCMP are asking snowmobilers to take extra precautions before heading out into the snow.
"Ensure you are appropriately dressed and have survival gear for emergencies," Cpl. Craig Douglass said. "The RCMP strongly encourages riders to always go out in groups of two or more."
