A snowmobiler died Sunday afternoon when caught in an avalanche near Tumbler Ridge.
Tumber Ridge RCMP said the man was one of seven snowmobilers riding near Core Lodge Road.
The avalanche struck three of the riders and while two were rescued by the rest of the party, they were unable to reach the third one in time and were unable to revive the man, Tumbler Ridge RCMP said.
RCMP were called at 2:46 p.m. but rescue personnel had to wait until the next day to recover the body with the help of a helicopter due to the possibility of a second avalanche coming down.
The man's name and home town were not released Monday.
