Thursday's snowfall was big but not big enough to set a record.
In all 13 cm hit the ground by the time all was said and done, but the record for Feb. 5 was 15 cm, set in 1922, Environment Canada meteorologist Jennifer Hay said Friday.
Looking ahead, the cold weather typical for this time of year will remain through the weekend, but a high of 6 C is forecast for Thursday, just a day before the Canada Winter Games is to begin, although Environment Canada is also forecasting a 60 per cent chance of flurries.
Hay said the swing is due to the Arctic air giving way to the Pineapple Express, the mixture of warm weather and precipitation that has inundated the Lower Mainland for the past few days.
Hay said Environment Canada is providing Games organizers with forecasts to help them to determine the best times of day to hold the outdoor events.
