As much as 25 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in the Bulkley Valley over Wednesday night, according to Environment Canada.
"Light snow will fall throughout the day with five cm accumulation expected," the agency said in an alert issued early Wednesday morning. "The snowfall will briefly abate this afternoon before beginning increasing again in intensity this evening.
"Overnight and through Thursday 20-25 cm of total snowfall can be expected. For Highway 16 - Smithers to Terrace, generally light accumulations are expected along the route except south of Moricetown where 15 cm is anticipated."
The event is being attributed to an Arctic cold front descending from the north and collide over the Bulkley Valley with a Pacific warm front arriving from the south.
"This clash of airmasses will result in an extended period of snowfall as the frontal boundary remains stalled over the region," Environment Canada said.
