Prince George went through a typical November in terms of temperature but saw less than half the usual amount of snow for the month, according to a synopsis from Environment Canada meteorologist Jim Steele.
Just 16 centimetres fell over the month, a mere 44 per cent of the normal of 36.2 cm. Moreover, there was just 9.4 millimetres of rain, 47 per cent of the normal of 20.2 mm and there was measurable precipitation on just 10 days, compared to the normal of 15 days.
The greatest one-day snowfall occurred on Nov. 19, when five cm fell, and the greatest one-day rainfall was 3.4 mm on Nov. 4.
Looking at the thermometer, the mean temperature of -3.3 Celsius was near the normal of -2.9 C, the average daily high of 0.5 C was near the normal of 0.6 C and the average daily low of -7.1 C was below the normal of -6.3 C.
Nov. 17 was the warmest day with a high of 10.5 C and the coldest was Nov. 10, when the temperature dipped to -20.5 C overnight.
Steel said the month got off to a fairly mild start "then winter made a rather ungraceful appearance" on Nov. 8, leading to the coldest temperature of the month two days later. Conditions then moderated near mid-month and a week later the warmest day was enjoyed.
"This was short lived as the cold air didn't take long to return with temperatures dipping once again on the 19th," Steele said. "The month ended on the cold side with temperatures remaining well below freezing during the last week of the month."
No daily or monthly records were set.
