Smoke from wildfires in the United States is getting bad enough to compromise air quality in the Central Interior, according to Environment Canada.

The agency issued smoky sky bulletins for the region just before midday Thursday saying that while southern B.C. will continue to bear the brunt, the magnitude will be on the rise further north later today and through tomorrow.

"If you or those in your care are exposed to wildfire smoke, consider taking extra precautions to reduce your exposure. Wildfire smoke is a constantly-changing mixture of particles and gasses which includes many chemicals that can harm your health," Environment Canada said.

Only northeast B.C. and the further reaches of the northeast remain unaffected. However, air quality is expected to begin to improve for all regions over the weekend.
