Firefighters from four halls were called out Friday night to deal with a small fire at the Pacific BioEnergy pellet plant.

The blaze's source appeared to have been an overheated blower fan in the cooler exhaust stack. An onsite crew worked to douse the fire, but Prince George Fire Rescue was called in when smoke began to enter the adjacent production building.

Firefighters and plant staff cooled the vessels and blow pipes and extinguished a small amount of embers from their product and dust, PGFR said.

There were no injuries but heat from the fire compromised the structural integrity of the exhaust stack which has been removed for replacement, according to the company.
