A Mountie just wanted to know if the man in the vehicle was OK. By the time the fellow was fully awake, a lot more was happening behind the scenes. It eventually led to the arrest and charge of Harjindar Singh Berar, 44.

The wake-up call first happened at about 8 p.m. on Saturday when a General Duty member of the RCMP noticed a man sleeping in a running vehicle in the 200 block of Cherry Avenue.

"The male was difficult to wake and appeared to be affected by a drug," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "A significant amount of cash and a quantity of what was later confirmed to be cocaine was observed in close proximity to the man. A quantity of what was later confirmed to be methamphetamine was located on his person."

The groggy man was arrested for the drug possession.

An undisclosed clue found during this process suggested to police they ought to also examine a particular residence in the 1100 block of Chilako Avenue. A search warrant was obtained for the place.

At about 8 a.m. Sunday, police executed the warrant. "Investigators located a quantity of cocaine, drug trafficking materials and a stolen television," Douglass said. A man known to police, Berar, was arrested in connection to these findings.

Berar is now charged with two counts of drug trafficking, two counts of drug possession, and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.
