The BC government will be testing its emergency alert system on Wednesday, May 7.
The test alert will interrupt radio and television broadcasts and go to all compatible cellphones at 1:55 p.m.
The BC government has provided an example of the alert: "This is a TEST of the emergency alert system. This is ONLY a TEST. In an emergency, this message would tell you what to do to stay safe. This information could save your life. This is ONLY a TEST. No action is required.”
BC emergency elerts provide urgent public safety information during life-threatening emergencies.
Don't call 911 for information about the test, the province reminds residents. Using 911 for non-emergency calls could delay help for people in crisis.
The next alert test is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov.19, at 1:55 p.m. (PST).
