RCMP have released a composite sketch of a man suspected of giving a young female hitchhiker a scare about a month ago.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, heavy set, 40 to 50 years old, with grey hair and

wearing dark brown glasses and a jean jacket at the time of the alleged Dec. 24 incident.

Police have said the teen had gotten into a red minivan in the Kispiox area, about 90 kilometres north of Smithers, at about noon on Christmas Eve, but after a brief conversation she became uncomfortable and asked the man to let her out.

Instead, he continued driving away from her intended destination and the woman jumped from the van when the suspect slowed to cross a bridge.

The man was last seen in the Hagwilget area on Highway 62, driving towards Highway 16.

Investigators urge anyone with information about the suspect or the van to call the New Hazelton RCMP at 1-250-842-5244 or to leave a tip anonymously, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
