Prince George's emergency services workers are partnering with Canadian Blood Services this month for the annual "Sirens for Life" campaign and are encouraging the public to get involved.
"The need for blood doesn't take a winter vacation, and paramedics, fire and police workers may know this more than most," said CBS partnership specialist Amy Erickson.
"That's one of the reasons these first responders are rallying together and rolling up their sleeves."
To run until Jan. 31, members of the public can also participate by booking an appointment and then putting their name next to the emergency services team of their choice in the challenge binder at the clinic.
"Anyone can need blood at any time," Erickson said. "It can take 50 blood donors to save someone who has been in a car accident."
Donating blood only takes about an hour. To make an appointment to give blood or for eligibility information and clinic locations visit www.blood.ca or call 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236 6283).
