The Shovel Lake wildfire has more than doubled in size.

Located 15 kilometres northwest of Endako, it stood at 5,000 hectares, the B.C. Wildfire Service said in an update posted late-morning Tuesday, well up from 2,000 the day before, and it is zero-per-cent contained.

At total of 96 firefighters, 20 support staff, seven helicopters and 32 pieces of heavy equipment have been deployed to the scene.

"Today crews are continuing to work to establish containment on the southern flank with machine guard and hose lay," BCWFS said, adding it is working with local industry to secure additional equipment.

An area restriction order has also been imposed by BCWFS that bars everyone but those living or working a farm in the area from going into the zone.

And an evacuation alert issued by the Bulkley-Nechako Regional District for the area remains in place.
