The thunderstorm watch issued earlier by Environment Canada for Prince George has now been updated to a warning.
The weather service says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing large hail and heavy rain.
"Thunderstorms are expected to develop over eastern sections of Chilcotin this afternoon and move eastwards to Cariboo and 100 Mile region late this afternoon and reaching Prince George this evening," the warning reads. "Some of the thunderstorms may become severe and produce heavy rain and up to nickel size hail."
Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts are also possible. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
