Mourners will gather Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Giles' Presbyterian to remember Robin Fairservice.

The longtime city volunteer died Monday. He was 82.

Fairservice was born in Essex County, England and eventually settled in Canada in 1974. He was well known as a mentor for young engineers, and received the 2008 president's award from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. for his years of volunteer and training work. Known to colleagues and friends as fair, funny and reasonable, he had an intense love of motor racing, and was a member of several car clubs. He was also a contributor each year to the annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Building contest.

In Fairservice's retirement years, he developed a keen interest in genealogy. His work with the Prince George Genealogical Society contributed to the group winning the 2010 Jeanne Clarke Memorial Local History Award for community service. His volunteer work was also recognized when he took home a City of Prince George Volunteer Recognition Award in 2012.

Fairservice is survived by his wife Barbara, and his sons Andrew and Richard.
