A second person has died as a result of Monday morning's head-on collision on Highway 16 West near Fraser Lake.
One of the female occupants of a Jeep Cherokee died late Monday night after being transported to Vancouver General Hospital and receiving medical treatment, Staff Sgt. Pat McTiernan, unit commander of the RCMP's Prince George regional traffic services, said Tuesday afternoon.
The male driver of the Toyota Tercel, a resident of Fraser Lake, was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Monday.
A second female in the Jeep received critical injuries but is in stable condition in Vancouver. The two were a mother and daughter from Prince George, McTiernan said.
Names of the deceased have not been released.
McTiernan said the collision occurred when the driver of the westbound Jeep crossed the centre line and into the path of the eastbound Toyota near the Beaumont Provincial Park turnoff about 142 kilometres west of Prince George.
An eastbound commercial truck and trailer was then struck from behind by an eastbound commercial crane unit at the scene, McTiernan said. The drivers of those two vehicles escaped uninjured.
An investigation to determine the causes is continuing,
"Weather, road conditions, distractions and vehicle mechanical condition are amongst the considerations being examined," McTiernan said.
