Family members of a missing father of four are appealing to the public for help to find him.

Steve William Knapton, 46, was last heard from on Oct. 12, his cousin Karalyn Heimbigner said.

On Oct. 12 Knapton called his oldest son and they planned to meet the next day at Pine Centre Mall, Heimbigner said, but Knapton never showed up, which is out of character for him.

He also stopped showing up for work at a local mill, failed to cash a paycheque and hasn't contacted his parents -who he normally phones weekly.

"He called his son... [and] that's the last he was heard from. It seems he's just disappeared," Heimbigner said. "His belongings were left behind. It's like he went for a walk [and didn't come back]."

On Oct. 29, Knapton's family -who don't live in Prince George -called police. After many checks to try and find him, Prince George RCMP have launched a missing person's case into Knapton's disappearance.

Knapton's parents live in Bella Coola and Heimbigner lived in Vancouver, which has hampered efforts by the family to search for him.

"I've just been trying to do what I can from here," Heimbigner said. "It makes it more difficult to search."

The family have created a Facebook paged titled Help Find Steve William Knapton (www.facebook.com/groups/401271993309552) and have printed missing person posters, which are available for free at the Prince George Staples location in Parkwood Place.

Knapton is Caucasian, five foot 10, weighs 220 pounds, has hazel eyes, reddish-brown hair, wears glasses, typically wears a goatee beard and has no tattoos.

Knapton is a former truck driver, but currently doesn't have a vehicle or a cell phone, Heimbigner said.

He is known to have some health problems and typically kept to himself, according to police.

Anyone with information about Knapton's whereabouts is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300, or anonymous tips can be made by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).

Tips can also be made online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca or by sending a text message to CRIMES(274637) using the keyword "pgtips."
