Police are on the lookout for some enterprising suspects responsible for the theft of a forklift and copper wire Tuesday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., the Prince George RCMP received a report that the machinery and a 300-metre roll of insulated copper wire was taken from a light industrial compound on 22nd Avenue.

Officers found that whomever was responsible had entered sometime overnight and made off with the forklift carrying the spool of wire. It is believed the forklift was driven across Highway 97, down Griffiths Avenue past Prince George secondary school and on to Massey Drive.

"From there, the thief or thieves likely traveled north on Massey Drive to an area behind the Kia automobile dealership where the spool was presumably loaded onto a vehicle and removed from the area," said a statement from RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass.

The forklift was abandoned undamaged.

Anyone with information about those responsible for the theft is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.crimestopperspg.bc.ca or Text-A-Tip to 274637 using keyword "pgtips."
