The search for the two men who vanished into the Salmon River has been called off.

As of Wednesday night, when Prince George Search and Rescue ended its operation, neither of the two had been found.

"They searched the entire area that they wanted to, probably more than once," Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said.

One of the two had been snowmobiling along the river when he went under while trying to hydroplane his machine over a stretch of open water, according to RCMP. One of his friends jumped in to try and rescue him and instead was also swept under the ice.

PGSAR were called in the same day.

The names of the two have not been released but both are from Prince George and are 36 and 31 years old.
