The board of education for School District 57 unanimously approved a list of 27 annual facility grant applications worth a collective $4.625 million for capital projects to the provincial government for the 2025-26 at its Tuesday, May 13 regular meeting.
The applications include:
- $110,000 for stucco replacement on the west and north walls at Blackburn Elementary
- Around $1 million for roof section replacements and $45,000 for piping renewals at College Heights Secondary
- $50,000 to renew the gym floor finish at École Lac Des Bois
- $5,500 to remove asbestos-containing flooring and $15,000 to renovate a washroom at Edgewood Elementary
- $16,000 to remove asbestos-containing flooring and $65,000 to renovate washrooms at Foothills Elementary
- $70,000 for washroom renovations and $70,000 for exterior painting at Hixon Elementary
- $55,000 to renew a gas-fired furnace at Malaspina Elementary
- $3,500 to remove asbestos-containing flooring at Morfee Elementary in Mackenzie
- $40,000 to renew an electrical panel, $35,000 to renew electric lighting, $17,963 to renew corridor heaters and $1.8 million to upgrade a parking lot at Prince George Secondary
- $52,000 to remove asbestos-containing flooring and $15,000 to renew the public address system at Spruceland School of the Arts
- $105,000 for exterior painting at Valemount Elementary
- $80,000 to renew the fire alarm system Valemount Secondary
- $35,000 to replace doors at various sites
- $75,000 for asbestos abatement at various sites
- $75,000 for flooring renewal at various sites
- $50,000 to renew playground fall protection at various sites
- $100,000 for “educational change improvements” at various sites and
- $100,000 for health and safety improvements at various sites
Specific dollar amounts for these projects were not provided in the district’s documents.
In the 2024-25 school year, SD57 received $650,000 for HVAC upgrades at Beaverly Elementary and $625,000 for HVAC upgrades at École College Heights Elementary from the province for capital projects.
The district had originally applied for just over $4.2 million in annual facility grants that year.
