Scam targets seniors

There is a cheque-cashing scam involving seniors in Prince George.

There is a cheque-cashing scam involving seniors in Prince George.

RCMP said two black men in their 30s pull up to a senior in a white medium-sized sedan, possibly with Alberta plates, advise they need a cheque cashed but because they are from out of town, they don't have a local bank.

The victim then takes the cheque into the bank they deal with where they are known by the tellers. The senior exchanges the cheque for cash and the money is turned over to the suspects.

It then takes up to several days for the cheque to be returned to the bank NSF.

Cheques used in this scheme appear to have been issued by Burrell Auto Insurance and have been issued on Alberta Treasury Branch cheques. They look legitimate. A second set of cheques was issued by the Cala Company.
