The Salmon River Bridge will be closed for eight hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. this Saturday to Sunday to allow the structure to be moved from its present alignment and provide a detour while the new bridge is being constructed.
Once relocated, it will form a two-lane detour which will remain in place until the new bridge is completed. There may also be some short periods of single-lane alternating traffic during the start and end of the construction phase.
To cost $24 million, the new bridge will be wider and have a greater capacity to handle oversize loads as well as a sidewalk and pedestrian passes at both ends. There will also be off-highway parking for recreational users of the Salmon River.
Work is scheduled for completion in fall 2017.
