Salmon and Saffron contest

Although tickets to Theatre North West's wine festival have been sold out for weeks, there is an opportunity for Prince George residents to learn about wines and meet the wine representatives who are here for the event.

Although tickets to Theatre North West's wine festival have been sold out for weeks, there is an opportunity for Prince George residents to learn about wines and meet the wine representatives who are here for the event.

Tom Dielissen, a TNW director, invites the public to attend the afternoon trade event at Exploration Place Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. to observe six chefs in action

There are six local restaurant chefs and workers who will prepare an appetizer and pair it to the wine of their choice in a bid to win the awards for first, second and third place.

"The wine and food pairing event will be a juried contest between the restaurants, involving four judges, and the winner will receive the Golden Cork Award at the Wine Festival being held that night," Dielissen said.

"This year's theme will be two delicacies, salmon and saffron, and the contestants will be rated on presentation, plating, taste and the pairing of wine."

The participating restaurants are Cimo's, Coast Inn of the North, Moxies, Riverstone Bar Grill, Twisted Cork and White Goose Bistro. Last year the award went to White Goose.

"The chefs put their hearts and soul into this challenge which is a big one since Exploration Place does not have a full-fledged kitchen," Dielissen said.

The event is free to all and the winner will be announced at 4 p.m. .
