The road from Queensway to the cemetery will be temporarily closed shortly after noon Tuesday as Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick is laid to rest.

Fitzpatrick, 21, died in an Edmonton hospital last weekend after being wounded by an improvised explosive device on March 6 in Kandahar province.

He is the first Prince George-raised soldier to die in combat since the Second World War.

Queensway Street and parts of Ferry Avenue will be closed starting at 12:30 p.m. The entrance and exit ramps near the bridge at Highway 97 South will be blocked, as will part of the intersection at Ferry Avenue and Highway 16.

The delay should be short as the procession taking Fitzpatrick's body to the cemetery is set to last 15 minutes.

The event is closed to the media but the public is invited to attend and pay their respects. A public entrance to the cemetery will be available along Lansdowne Road.
