A rooftop fire forced the evacuation Tuesday of the Spruceland Mall Save On supermarket.
Responding to an initial report a few minutes after noon of heavy smoke in an electrical room, 11 firefighters equipped with three three truck from two halls arrived on the scene to find the fire was burning on the roof.
"A roofing crew had been doing repairs to the roof when a small section of the roof caught fire," Prince George Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Greg Wilkins said. "Subsequent smoke had been drawn into a nearby air intake on the roof."
The store had been evacuated by the time they arrived and there were no injuries and minimal damage to the structure.
However, once the fire was out, firefighers worked to clear smoke from the store and Save On officials expected to keep the supermarket closed for the rest of the day to allow for clean up.
