The amount of lives lost in car crashes over the long weekend was below average, according to the RCMP.
Law enforcement officers dealt with two fatal motor vehicle collisions over the B.C. Day holiday, resulting in three deaths. According to an RCMP report released Tuesday, the average is five deaths on B.C. highways over the long weekend.
Of the infractions recorded between Aug. 3 and 6, there were 42 drivers licences suspended for failing roadside screening devices, 407 charges for failing to wear a seatbelt, 36 charges for no insurance, 173 charges of using an electronic device, 15 charges for not wearing a motorcycle helmet and 70 charges of driving a defective vehicle.
Nearly 2,000 drivers were ticketed for speeding, with several stopped for excessive speeding and had their vehicles impounded.
Three novice drivers also had their vehicles impounded - two for not displaying an N sign and one for having too many passengers. There were 102 charges of driving contrary to novice restrictions overall.
