The Prince George Cougars endured a Western Hockey League weekend road trip they would like to forget.
The Cats lost 6-2 to the Kelowna Rockets on Friday night at Prospera Place and for the first time this season, were shut out when they went down 6-0 to the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday.
The Rockets' special teams were a big factor on Friday, as Kelowna scored three power-play goals on four power-plays and kept the Cougars' off the score sheet on five opportunities. Prince George had the game's first four power-plays but could not capitalize.
In Spokane, the tipping point was in the middle frame where the Chiefs scored five goals on 14 shots and three of them came inside the final two minutes.
With starting goalie Taylor Gauthier recovering from a lower-body injury and backup Tyler Brenann playing at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Medicine Hat, the Cougars relied on call up Jacob Herman to mind the nets on both nights.
The Cougars host the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday night, followed by a pair against the Victoria Royals on Friday and Saturday night, all games at CN Centre, 7 p.m. starts.
