Paving season in Prince George officially starts today.
From now until September, expect some delays as paving crews lay down new blacktop to make our roads safer for motorists and smoother for vehicles. Sixteen paving projects covering 36 lane kilometres are expected to be completed this year at a cost of $5.18 million.
This week's paving projects include:
* Winnipeg Street between Carney Street and 13th Avenue, a two-day (weather dependent) project covering 2.788 lane kilometres at a cost of $314,000;
* A 0.658 lane km stretch of 20th Avenue between Massey Drive and Highway 16 over two days, costing $127,000;
* Johnson Street between 10th Avenue and 15th Avenue, a one-day project covering 1.092 lane km at a cost of $98,000;
* Lyon Street between 15th Avenue and 18th Avenue stretching 0.630 lane km at a cost of $99,000;
* Nicholson Street between 22nd Avenue and Opie Crescent, a one-day project over 0.576 lane km, costing $69,000.
Other paving projects slated to be completed this year are:
* Northwood Pulp Road, between Clubhouse Drive and Aberdeen Road;
* Chief Lake Road, between Foothills Boulevard and Highway 97;
* Foothills Boulevard, north of First Avenue to the Foothills Bridge;
* Foothills Boulevard, an 890-metre stretch south of where 2009 paving project ended;
* 22nd Avenue, between Central Street and Ospika Boulevard;
* University Way, between Shane Creek Bridge and Foothills Boulevard;
* Old Summit Lake Road, 1,400 metres north of where paving work in 2011 ended;
* Rainbow Drive, between Ospika Boulevard and Ahbau Street;
* West Austin Road, between South Kelly Road and Highway 97;
* Cranbrook Hill Road, between 15th Avenue and where 2011 paving work ended;
* West Austin Road, between Foothills Boulevard and Kelly Road.
