Operation Red Nose will be back on the roads tonight and tomorrow, offering a second weekend of safe rides home.
Twenty teams of volunteers will be out on Friday and Saturday nights for the third and fourth nights of the 2014 season, hoping to improve on the Prince George records of 85 rides on the third night in 2012 and 137 rides on the fourth night in 2012. After the first weekend in 2014, 113 safe rides have already been provided.
Operation Red Nose is a free, seasonal service organized by the Nechako Rotary Club of Prince George in partnership with the RCMP and ICBC to help partygoers get themselves and their vehicle home.
In addition to this weekend, Red Nose will also operate Dec. 12 and 13, Dec. 19 and 20 and New Year's Eve. Rides can be booked by calling 250-962-RIDE (7433) when the phone lines are open between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.
Clients must provide their phone number, pick-up and drop-off locations and the make and model of their vehicle (which must have a B.C. licence plate).
Red Nose organizers are still trying to reach their goal of 450 volunteers this season and only 200 people have signed up. To add your name, volunteers must be at least 19 years old and undergo a criminal record check. Apply online at www.ornpg.ca.
