Flood waters along the Dore River near McBride continue to threaten homes and an evacuation order issued Tuesday by the regional district of Fraser-Fort George remains in effect.
Seventy residences are affected and with more rain in the forecast, people are being asked to prepare to leave and take precautions to prevent their properties from being damaged.
The regional district recommend residents move equipment and vehicles to higher ground and make arrangements for pets and/or livestock to be moved to safe locations. Gather important papers and documents in water-tight containers and store valuables in safe locations. It’s also advised to prepare a 72-hour personal survival kit for you and your family.
Be extremely careful near rivers and streams and avoid them whenever possible. The high-flowing water can undercut banks and cause erosion and instability and the ground can suddenly give way and slide into the river.
District staff will continue to monitor river levels and precipitation during the weekend.
