Tomorrow is officially the day (July 11).
The first legal cannabis store in Prince George (government or retail) will open its doors to the public at 9 a.m.
"We're incredibly excited for what's to come next, we've been working hard on this since March of last year and we can finally see some light at the end of this tunnel!," Grashopper Retail Inc. said in an email to PrinceGeorgeMatters. "The community's support has been encouraging us through this journey and we can't wait to show everyone what we've achieved so far. We're so grateful that we'll be able to provide Prince George with something it's been so ready for, for so long. And to be the first in Prince George feels truly magical."
The store has over a dozen employees alongside owners Sandra and Derrick Przysieny and business partner Joe Postnikoff.
There will be several strains of cannabis available including pre-rolls, capsules, and oils. Accessories will include grinders, rolling trays and papers, bongs, pipes, and vaporizers.
The company said they received 11 letters of support for the store during the application process with the City of Prince George.
Grasshopper Retail Inc. officially received approval from the city on Apr. 8, 2019, awarded a temporary use permit at 421 George St.
Two other shops (B.C. regulated) have been approved in Prince George, one in the Pine Centre Mall and one in College Heights.
There is no update on opening dates for either of the two shops.
There are also two other independent stores that have received approval from the city: Zaga's Hemp Shop and Shire Green.
