The Prince George Relay for Life was the No. 1 relay in the nation, raising $600,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society during the country's only 24-hour event.
Sarah Trottier and Brent Marshall, two Prince George residents, joined the provincial Dream Team last fall, which is a group of community and business leaders who joined forces
to raise significant funds. When the Prince George relay raised $576,678.43, Brent Marshall personally provided the funds to reach the total of $600,000.
"I continue to be overwhelmed with the generous support Prince George - and indeed the rest of the province and country - continues to show to the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay For Life," said Helen Owen, team lead, Relay For Life. "As the total shows, 2014 was another 'best-ever' event for Prince George. Achieving the title of No. 1 Relay in Canada was a major accomplishment. The support shown to our event is truly amazing."
This year's Relay for Life will once again be held at Masich Place Stadium from 10 a.m. May 9 to 10 a.m. May 10.
"We are thrilled to welcome back Allnorth as event sponsor for the third year," said Owen. "We are so grateful to Allnorth and other businesses in town for the outstanding support (cash and gifts-in-kind) they provide to the event."
Sponsors to date are Canadian Tire, the survivor sponsor, RE/MAX Centre City, the luminary sponsor, The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, the media sponsor, and The Prince George Citizen, the print sponsor.
The 2015 theme continues from 2014 with The Vegas Strip, No.1, That's How We Roll.
Each participating team is encouraged to dress accordingly and decorate their tents.
