On March 1 Smithers RCMP responded to a call from a trailer in the Laidlaw Trailer Park where an unresponsive man was suffering from stab wounds. The 30-year-old was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery, but died a short time later.
Police arrested a 23-year-old local female at the scene who is in custody pending an appearance in court. Investigation by North District Major Crime Unit from Prince George, BC Coroners Service and Terrace Forensic Unit have determined domestic violence and alcohol are factors in the case.

Dawson Creek RCMP dealt with an early Tuesday case of a man barricading himself in a residence in the 600 block of 99th Avenue in that city. Police contained a six-block area and some people were evacuated from their residences for safety reasons. At about 10 a.m. the barricaded man gave himself up peacefully to police. He was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act and taken to the hospital for evaluation.
