Rudolph with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleight tonight?
Even though the snowy weather made for challenging driving, Operation Red Nose still gave 226 safe rides home over the weekend.
On lucky Friday the 13th, 19 volunteer teams gave 84 rides, traveling 2,430 km, compared to 124 rides on the same night last year.
On Saturday, 26 teams gave 142 rides, traveling 3,928 km, while last year 158 rides were given.
"Those numbers were what we expected considering the weather and road conditions on Friday," said Andrea Johnson, Operation Red Nose spokesperson. "A lot of people probably decided to stay home and that's totally fine. On Saturday more people went out and our teams were busy from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. The average wait time for a ride was 30 minutes."
Operation Red Nose is a seasonally offered service by the Rotary Club of Prince George Nechako, with the support of the RCMP and ICBC, that allows celebrators to get home safely, along with their cars.
After six nights of operation this season, Operation Red Nose Prince George has provided 563 safe rides. That puts Prince George in third place for total of rides provided in the province, with Langley-Surrey offering 663 rides and Kamloops providing 641.
Between 20 to 25 teams are lined up for this Friday, Dec. 20 and Saturday, Dec. 21.
Those who need a safe ride home can call 250-962-RIDE between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.
