As holiday celebrations continue, the party to end all parties for 2013 is happening on New Year's

Eve, and Operation Red Nose is ready to provide safe rides home.

"We will have between 25 and 30 volunteer road teams giving safe rides home New Year's Eve between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m.," said Andrea Johnson, Operation Red Nose spokesperson. "After looking at numbers for previous years, we expect to provide between 220 to 250 rides home."

Operation Red Nose has been providing rides during holiday weekends and in eight nights 793 rides have been given. It looks like that will make 2013 another year where more than 1,000 rides have been given, just like the last three years.

In 2012, 1,084 rides were provided while in 2011, 1,035 safe rides were provided. In 2010, 1,123 safe rides were provided. That was its best year to date in the 15 years the service has been available in Prince George.

Operation Red Nose is a free, by donation, designated-driving service that offers up a team of volunteers who will bring residents and their vehicle home safely.

The project is organized by the Rotary Club of Prince George Nechako in partnership with ICBC and the RCMP.

Anyone who needs a ride home can call 250-962-RIDE (7433).
