Operation Red Nose, a volunteer-based, by-donation safe ride home service needs volunteers for road teams on New Year's Eve.
The volunteer team, usually made up of three people offer people and their vehicles a ride home after merry making.
The last weekend before Christmas and New Year's saw 67 volunteers, including 21 road teams deliver 117 rides Friday while traveling 2,987 km. Saturday saw 69 volunteers, including 21 road teams offer 165 rides while traveling 3,909 km. After eight nights of Operation Red Nose 850 safe rides home were provided while traveling 24,020 km.
“Right now we only have about 23 road teams lined up which is not enough to keep up with the demand for rides we expect on Dec. 31," said Andrea Johnson, Operation Red Nose spokesperson. "It’s our busiest night of the season.”
Since 2010 volunteers have provided more than 200 rides on New Year's Eve.
Volunteers need to be at least 19 years old, have a valid driver's license and get a mandatory criminal record check. To fill out an application form visit www.ornpg.ca. Print off the application and drop it off at the RCMP detachment by Dec. 23.
Operation Red Nose Prince George is organized by the Neckako Rotary Club, the RCMP and ICBC.
