The thermometer struck a record low on Thursday when it dropped to -33.6 C.

It was not only the coldest it's been this winter but the coldest Feb. 6 recorded by Environment Canada in Prince George. The previous record for that day was -32.2 C.

The high on Thursday was just -18.8 C.

A warming trend is forecast over the next few days but whether the temperature will be warm enough to hold the Iceman on Sunday remains in doubt.

In a revised forecast, Environment Canada is predicting a high of -16 C on that day, up from -19 C it was forecasting earlier this week. But whether it will rise above the -20 C cutoff in time to hold the race on Sunday morning is still a worry for organizers.

Weather pending, the race is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. but the start can be delayed until as late as 10:30 a.m.

"The weather forecast is changing but will definitely be right near the cut off temperature at race time. We would like to give the weather every opportunity to cooperate," organizers said in a posting on the race's website. "We know that many people would be disappointed (ourselves included) if we cancelled it and then the temperature was -19 at race time and we could have proceeded."
