It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas spirit has struck Prince George as more than 700 people are scheduled to attend the 30th annual Kris Kringle Luncheon on Friday at the Civic Centre.

Previous years saw 300, 550, and 600 people attend so this is going to be a record breaker for the Child Development Centre's fundraiser.

"It has grown quite a bit and this will be our largest Kris Kringle Luncheon to date and we are expecting good things," said Darrell Roze, executive director at the Child Development Centre. "A lot of people want to support children in the community and we're the main provider of services to some of the most vulnerable children here."

Most years see about 1,100 children come through the doors at the CDC and some years there have been more than 1,200.

The Child Development Centre, funded in part by the Ministry of Children and Family Development, operates with a $3.3 million annual budget, with about $200,000 garnered through fundraising.

The $20,000 or so raised during the Kris Kringle Luncheon will go towards purchasing equipment children require for optimum development.

"The luncheon provides us with the opportunity to let folks know a little bit about what we do," said Roze.

"And provides important resources like equipment to help the children. Without that it would be difficult to provide the services that we do. Thanks so much to the community for always supporting us. It's really been incredible how the community always steps up to help the most vulnerable children in our community."
