REAPS, the local Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society, has received funding to promote and educate about residential recycling in Prince George.

Multi-Material BC (MMBC) awarded grants for community engagement and promotion of recycling by locking in partnerships with four community organizations in the province.

REAPS in Prince George, the Northern Environmental Action Team in Fort St. John/Peace River Regional District, Ridge Meadows Recycling Society in Maple Ridge and Let's Talk Trash in Powell River Regional District will share $14,000 to support efforts in their communities.

"REAPS is pleased to partner with MMBC in 2016," said Terri McClymont, executive director for REAPS, in a recent news release.

"Prince George began receiving curbside recycling for the first time in 2014, which was made possible by the MMBC program.

"Our residents have embraced recycling, but still have questions that we can help address through on-the-ground outreach and education. This funding and formal partnership helps with our efforts."

MMBC offers a wide range of education and communication materials to get the message out about how and where to recycle and recently started a campaign to address the big-picture benefits like greenhouse gas reduction, energy savings and waste reduction.

"MMBC's Community Champions program is consistent with our fundamental mission to promote recycling and to protect the environment," said Allen Langdon, managing director, MMBC.

"This is just one example of the type of investment we are making, on behalf of our member organizations, to raise the bar on recycling, and to position BC as a recycling leader in Canada and around the world."

The Community Champions will use these resources, as well as MMBC's Recycle It Right app to promote and provide information about recycling in B.C.
