The Prince George RCMP are warning residents to be cautious after two recent sexual assaults.
The first occurred Dec. 12 around 4 p.m., when a man approached a 17-year-old female from behind as she walked along the golf course side of Westwood Drive between Massey Drive and Ferry Avenue. The suspect inappropriately touched the female and kept walking.
The suspect is described as a 19-year-old man with fair skin, blue eyes and wearing a black puffy jacket and a mask.
A second incident happened Dec. 13, when just before 6 p.m., an unknown man wearing a black ski mask attacked a 15-year-old girl at the top of the stairs off Massey Drive near Prince George secondary school. The victim managed to scream and scare off the suspect, who is described as about 5'6" tall with an average or thin build and wearing black jacket and black gloves in addition to the ski mask.
"Although investigators have not been able to link the two incidents, there is a chance that the same person could be responsible for both attacks, especially since they occurred in the same general area," said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass.
The public, especially females walking alone, should heed the following safety tips:
Whenever possible, don't walk alone
Be cautious of persons around you
Vary your route - don't be predictable
Travel on busy, well-lit routes
Make use of public transit
Call police immediately (9-1-1) if you are assaulted or feel your safety is at risk.
