Some trends are emerging on the property crime front, Prince George RCMP said Friday.
In terms of commercial break and enters, police said businesses in the Bowl and the city's industrial areas have been the primary targets as have been fenced compounds for thieves on the lookout for tools, equipment, dirt bikes, copper wire, vehicle batteries and skid steer tractors.
Similarly, homes in the Bowl have been hit hard although College Heights, Cranbrook Hill and the Hart have not been out of the question. Police are urging homeowners to keep their eyes out for suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods and report incidents to the RCMP.
As for auto theft, thieves have been favouring Chevrolet and GMC pick-up trucks recently and there have been several thefts or attempted thefts in the month of October. Anti-theft devices are being recommended.
And thieves are continuing to target anything left in unlocked vehicles.
"From laptops to loose change nothing should be left in your vehicle. Please, please, please remove items from your vehicles and ensure your doors are locked," RCMP said.
The detachment is urging the public to report suspicious persons, vehicles and activities when they see them.
"Checking into suspicious incidents is part of our duties and not a waste of our time," RCMP said. "Please call police right away."
