RCMP nab assault suspect

Prince George RCMP arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of assaulting a female following a brief chase early Wednesday afternoon.

Prince George RCMP arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of assaulting a female following a brief chase early Wednesday afternoon.

The apprehension began when a member of the downtown enforcement unit saw the man leaving an apartment building in the 1800 block of Upland Street and recognized him as wanted by police.

The suspect, meanwhile, fled behind an adjacent building and as other officers were called in to assist, he attempted to flee on a BMX-style bicycle, pedalling north on Upland towards 15th Avenue.

He crossed 15th with police in pursuit and was quickly surrounded when he reached the Parkwood Mall parking lot.

Charges of assault and uttering threats have been recommended against the man from a July 11 incident when a member of the Prince George RCMP's general duty section was called to a report of an assault of a female at a home in the city.

And following his arrest, RCMP received a report of a stolen bicycle, believed to be the same one the suspect was riding when he was apprehended.
