RCMP has confirmed the death of the pilot in a helicopter crash in northwest B.C.

The pilot was the only person onboard, RCMP said, when the craft went down Monday near the Eskay Creek Mine, 250 kilometers north of Stewart.

Cause of the crash has not been determined. Transportation Safety Board, along with the RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating.

The pilot was flying for Prince George-based Aberdeen Helicopters, owner Peter McGill has said.

Authorities have declined to release the victim's name.

The crash site was in an isolated area and reaching the scene was challenging, RCMP said.
