An RCMP member in Fort St. John was badly bitten by a teenage youth when a struggle ensued during an attempt to arrest the 16-year-old.

In an attempt to escape custody, the youth became combative, and during the struggle, bit the officer's fingers so hard the policeman lost two fingernails, required stitches to close the wounds and was medically treated for the injuries to his hand, said Cst. Jackelynn Passarell, media relations officer.

The officer managed to subdue the youth who was taken into custody by other officers who had arrived on the scene.

The arrest Feb. 8 followed an eventful morning that allegedly involved an assault and vehicle chase. Read the rest of the story in The Citizen.
