Raise a Reader raises more than $11,000

The Raise a Reader campaign, held Wednesday, generated $11,050 for local literacy projects.

The Raise a Reader campaign, held Wednesday, generated $11,050 for local literacy projects.

Of that $6,400 was raised through donations received by 125 volunteers at 19 locations throughout the city, who handed out special Raise A Reader editions of the Citizen.

Another $4,650 came from local businesses who sponsored and supported the event, presented by the Prince George Public Library and the Citizen.

The sponsors were CNC, UNBC, Telus, McDonalds, Nechako Rotary Club, Friends of the Library, the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group and the Prince George Native Friendship Centre

Supporters were Integris Credit Union, Northern Health, St. Mary's School, Prince George Spruce Kings, Prince George Council of Seniors, Corrections B.C., Northern Undergraduate Student Society, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, B.C. Ambulance, Spruce Credit Union, Prince George City Council, Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond, Tim Hortons and Starbucks.
