Raise a Reader generates nearly $6,000

The Prince George Public Library's Raise a Reader campaign drew $5,888.84 in donations on Wednesday.

Volunteers spent the morning at Tim Hortons, McDonalds and Starbucks restaurants throughout the city, as well as at Second Cup, Books and Company, University of Northern British Columbia and College of New Caledonia selling copies of The Citizen for a donation.

"I'm happy to say we did a great job this morning, raising $673.00 more than we did last year," librarian Kaitlyn Vecchio said. "So great job hustling those papers."

Marnie Alexander and her students at Harwin Elementary School and Darcie Smith were the top fundraisers at $630.08. They worked the 15th and Central McDonalds

Totals from online donations will be known in a few weeks.

Proceeds go to literacy programs in the city.
