Rainy Saturday in Prince George forecast

Drier weather predicted for later in the weekend in north central Interior of B.C.
Storm
Be careful if you decide to head for the mountains for a hike this weekend, thundershowers are in the forecast Saturday afternoon for the Prince George region.

If you have outdoor activities planned for this weekend you might want to get out early in the morning on Saturday or wait until Sunday for drier weather.

There’s rain in the forecast tonight and until about 6 a.m. Saturday, when a six-hour window of opportunity for a break in the wet stuff is predicted. By about 1 p.m. Saturday, thundershowers are expected for Prince George with a cooler-than-normal high of 16 C expected, according to Environment Canada.

The good news is a dry day is in the forecast for Sunday under a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of 16 C and a low of 6 C. The normal high and low for this time of year in the city is a high of 19 C and a low of 7 C.

A cloudy day and showery evening is predicted for Monday with a high of 15 C. Periods of rain are predicted for Tuesday with the high reaching 18 C, but the sun is expected to return on Wednesday with a more seasonable high of 20 C.

Not including Friday’s noon-hour downpour, Prince George has received 21.4 millimetres of rain this month, half of which fell on Wednesday, when we received 11.5 mm. On five of the first nine days of June we reached 20 C or warmer. The mercury hit 23.1 C at the Prince George airport on June 2nd, the hottest day so far in 2022.

While it's too early to tell for sure, chances are we won’t hit the extreme June temperatures the city experienced last year, when searing heat from the United States brought record-setting highs to most of the province, including a 37.9 C day on June 28 and six consecutive days of at least 30 C high temperatures. The unprecedented heat wave of 2021 caused the deaths of 14 people in Prince George.
