To celebrate the Central B.C. Railway and Forest Industry Museum Society's 30th anniversary, a new exhibit, Still on Track: 30 Years of the Railway and Forestry Museum Society, opens Thursday.
A small group of railway enthusiasts got together in 1983 to restore a 1903 snow plow and began working on creating a museum in Prince George. The group started out as the Central British Columbia Railroad Preservation and Museum Society and later became the Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum.
Through the years the society continued to add displays, including mining and firefighting displays and collecting industrial artifacts.
Society members volunteered thousands of hours to maintain the industrial museum.
Through the history of the museum, society members have reported upgrades and acquisition through the newsletter called On Track.
Visitors can walk along the life-size historical timeline, test their skills as a museum director, restore rail cars, build a speeder shed, design a mini-rail line and have a photo taken in engineer or forester's clothing.
Still On Track will start with a reception Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
