Quesnel girl wins Citizen spelling bee

Third time was the charm for Cynthia Dykhuizen. In her third attempt in as many years, the grade-seven student from Barlow Creek Elementary School on the outskirts of Quesnel emerged the winner of the Citizen spelling bee at Vanier Hall on Saturday.

In her third attempt in as many years, the grade-seven student from Barlow Creek Elementary School on the outskirts of Quesnel emerged the winner of the Citizen spelling bee at Vanier Hall on Saturday.

She earned a cheque for $5,000 from the Egg Farmers of Canada to pursue an education and will represent northern B.C. at the Canwest Canspelll national spelling bee in Ottawa, March 24-29.
