Police in Prince George have taped off the area near Fifth Avenue and George Street as a metal part of the UNBC Wood Innovation and Design Centre's roof is swaying.
This is the result of high wind gusts earlier today (Jan. 19) causing apparent damage to the downtown facility and to several homes across the city.
Vehicle and foot traffic in this area is not advised by RCMP due to safety concerns.
UNBC clarified to PrinceGeorgeMatters it does not own the building, but it's 'making sure the right people know' about the incident.
Environment Canada says around 2 p.m., winds peaked at 91 km/h by the Prince George airport and died down to about 65 km/h by 4 p.m.
The unusual January weather resulted in more than 7,300 BC Hydro customers without power across the city's region and crews are continuing to work on fixing all damaged equipment.
More to come...
